Maintaining your air conditioners is vital to ensure you get the most out of them, here are a few tips for your A/C this summer:
👉 When installing a new aircon, ensure that the size of unit is adequate for the size of the room. And no, bigger is not always better. Mitsubishi does a simple sizing guide to find out what size A/C you need to install based on a room’s size and insulation etc.
👉 Check drains regularly, that they are in fact draining. The easiest way to do this is to slowly pour water onto the head unit fins and check the outside drain has water coming out of it.
👉 Pumped drains – Check these more often. They play up like a second hand lawnmower if the filters are not regularly cleaned. Blocked drains can cause thousands of dollars in water damaged walls and floors, so best to just give them a quick check.
👉 The unit does not suck air from outside and bring it inside. All that is in the head unit is a fan that recycles air from the room that it is in. As air blows over the cold pipes filled with gas, cool air is produced. So when there’s a fire outside, running your aircon will not suck in the smoke.
👉 Unused air cons. Trying to ‘save’ an aircon by never turning it on for years will dramatically increase the chance of seizing up the compressor. I wouldn’t get out of bed after three years of sitting in one spot – your air cons will do the same. Try to run unused air cons at least every couple of months, and leave the isolator OFF when not using for long periods. This saves slimy creatures crawling carelessly inside the outdoor unit and shorting out expensive electrical equipment.
Look after your air conditioners and they will work when you want them to. Keeping them clean and well maintained will ensure your' not spending a hot day wishing you checked those drains.
